They were described in the Marzy gig listing as covering Gypsy Jazz, Rag, Blues and R & B - and who am I to argue? They finger picked their way through the set with such dexterity and ease that I almost forgot to eat my Chicken Sagwala!!
For the next hour or so we were privileged to hear a superb set of original, self-penned numbers as well as a few old standards such as slick re-workings of 'You're Driving Me Crazy' and 'I Can't Give You Anything But Love'. Personally, I like their original material such as, 'Standing At The Station', 'Tell Me You Love Me' and 'Show No Fear' which show off their songwriting skills and allow them to let rip big style!
They soon had the audience in their hands and as the set progressed they just seemed to get better and better and such was the atmosphere on Marr's that eventually even Barfly bass player Stu McEwan couldn't contain himself any longer and jumped on stage to provide backing vocal on one song.
All in all an excellent night. Look out for The Barflys and go see 'em!! Oh, and buy the CD's!!
