Play 90 second soundbite of 'B-Movie Scientist' @ 'CD quality'
What I perticularly like about The Bad Detectives is that they don't try to bring their chosen genre up to date; they manage to rock without all the bells and whistles of modern rock trends and somehow keep things very much true to its origins. And, I think that's a blessing coz this type of rock'n'roll/rockabilly stands up better when played with the passion and belief that the early pioneers had - lovingly raw, blessedly naive, effortlessly simple - real straight-arrow, reverential and believable.
Ok, so The Bad Detectives do it like I think it should be done. But also they do it with great humour and quite often point the humorous finger straight back at themselves - that I really do like! The Bad Detectives are at least realists and not up their own arses - great stuff. Oh, and that applies to this album as well by the way - great stuff! Seventeen, good-time tracks that don't take themselves too seriously but come up with the goods every time. The Bad Detectives make me smile - and make no mistake about it, these guys can sure play. The Bad Detectives are solidly tight, infectiously punchy and annoyingly foot-tappin'! I can't fault this album in any way; it's superbly done, irritatingly catchy and frustratingly unputdownable.
The Bad Detectives' album, 'B-Movie Beats', is wonderful entertainment and a pleasure to behold. I wish I didn't like it - but I love it!
