Play 90 second soundbite of 'The Lesbian Song' @ 'CD quality'
Going more down the melodic punk-pop route Testosterone give a good account of themselves in just seven well crafted songs. They mix it up pretty well in the tempo department which is a pleasant change in itself - so many similarly ilked outfits seem to just go flat out and sound a bit rushed all too often samey. But, Testosterone manage to avoid that pit-fall through good writing and nifty arrangements. Testosterone are a bit like a low-key Green Day; by layering some nice rock riffs into their songs, Testosterone set themselves apart from many of their contemporaries. They let their strength of writing shine out and allow plenty of room for the tasty lyrics to be heard and understood. Although the vocalist sometimes drifts into an American-esque accent Testosterone generally have a great Brit feel.
I don't know whether this is a home-made recording. If it is, it's quite well done but would still benefit from some better mixing and production, if only to provide a more dynamic and fuller-sounding work. Whatever, 'The Friday Night EP' is a great introduction to what sounds like a creative and energetic band. They sound tight and don't crowd each other out. The songs are strong and Testosterone seem to perform together to a high standard.
'The Friday Night EP' by Testosterone is nicely done and shows great potential. Testosterone have a great feel about them and I can see them doing very well for themselves such that I'd like to hear more and I'm keen to watch their progress.
