Talk In Code

Demo

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Dry Emotion' @ 'CD quality'

Well, Talk In Code may be, and I quote from their own press pack, "a brand new Swindon-based band, shortly to make our debut live performance..." but this demo rather contradicts that statement; with three excellent tracks and a sound that's vibrant and extremely likeable, Talk In Code sound like they've been together for 'donkey's trousers'!

Talk In Code seem to be taking a musical road which is, thankfully, not simply indie and not purely rock - Talk In Code have a lovely jaunty nu-country/rock feel which is not only refreshing to hear but also pretty commercial and certainly damn catchy. Their compositions are bold, well thought out and beautifully rounded with a great modern twist on what could loosely be described as indie with underlying 'country/rock' tendencies.

'Dry Emotion' opens up this excellent demo with a nicely up-tempo piece that I can only find one fault with (actually it may not even be a fault - it could be my, at times, uncertain ear!), the 'ooohh' backing voices seem to be a tad off key, just a hint that's all (please correct me if I'm wrong you Talk In Code boys). That aside, 'Dry Emotion' is very well crafted and carries some big hooks within its energetic heart. 'First Mistake' follows; opening with (my favourite kinda thing in 'rock' music) acoustic guitar which gently lets in the rest of the band - less commercial maybe but a great album track that's again full of hooky riffs and a great chorus. Nice track and so far so good! The demo ends with 'Suddenly Overcome', a slower piece that's packed with emotion both vocally and instrumentally. Three great tracks - impressively written, well constructed, sensitively performed and clearly showing that Talk In Code know what they're doing.

Based on just these three tracks I can honestly say that I like Talk In Code. I like their songwriting very much indeed, I love their playing and I adore their feel. Talk In Code may only just be starting out as a band but you can sense that the boys have all done pretty rewarding musical apprenticeships in one form or another. Again, I know there's only three tracks here to judge by but, the songwriting is mature, believable and gritty and Talk In Code handle it all with professionalism and controlled energy. As a unit Talk In Code have a presence that belies their short time together as a band - they play bloody superbly and are well tight and seemingly focussed. All-in-all, Talk In Code show their worth in just three shortish tracks - if they maintain this standard, Talk In Code should expect a bright and prosperous future together. Impressive demo that bodes well for a great album sometime in the, hopefully not too distant, future. Nice work guys - potential, potential, potential!!
