Play 90 second soundbite of 'Time Of My Life' @ 'CD quality'
With his wealth of experience and expertise this Brooklyn based producer and singer, Tah Mac, could've and should've laid down something a lot more impressive with 'Time Of My Life'. For me, Tah Mac has put too much into making this a silky smooth rap song that competes in every aspect except originality. However, all is not lost cuz track two is a remix of the single and this comes thumpin' out at you with loads of presence and more than a touch of individualism. Big bassy beats are complimented by exotic, dramatic 'orchestration' and catchy fills that jump out at you and leave a lasting impression. The 'remix' should, for me, be the 'A' side!!
On a more positive note, Tah Mac can't be faulted at all for his attention to detail; 'Time of My Life' is blessed with a stunning mix and a final production to die for. It's slick, polished and free-flowing. The vocal layering is exemplary and the overall vibe is everything it should be. But, I still think that 'Time Of My Life' lacks real impact - it's all too predictable and in a 'mould'. It offers no clout, no big hook!
Tah Mac plies his trade with confidence and aptitude and 'Time Of My Life' meets all the normal criteria associated with the genre; it tells a story of someone's expectations being met, it sounds optimistic and positive. 'Time Of My Life' is great rap/hip-hop - no doubt at all! For me, 'turn it over', go for the remix, feel the difference!! One to watch out for if only to see which version becomes the fave!!
