Sue Foley

DVD - Live In Europe

This great value DVD package lets you see Sue Foley up-close and personal. The main selection finds Foley at The Underground in Koln and there's an additional chapter live in Amsterdam plus the usual interviews etc.

'Sue Foley Live In Europe' gives the stay at home, armchair blues audience a chance to come to terms with a lady that's taking on the blues world with her sometimes unorthodox guitar style. Foley works her way through many of her favourite songs from such greats as Memphis Minnie, Precious Bryant and Willie Dixon as well as showcasing a few of her self-penned works from her album 'New Used Car'. Let's face it, over the years the blues has been the live domain of thousands of male stars and proteges and often it's been difficult for the ladies of the ilk to get heard or seen. Ruf Records are giving Sue Foley every chance. And Foley, in turn, is taking all of the chances and making the most of whatever exposure she can get to show that , hey, the gals can do it too you know!!

Canadian Foley works tightly with her home-grown band to bring you a damn cool couple of hours of punchy blues grit. The camera gets close in to show her clever right hand pickin' and her unusual left hand style as she extracts everything from the depths of her custom Telecaster. No time is wasted on idle chit-chat between songs; Foley keeps the pressure on with short introductions and then just gets down to business.

Highlights for me are Memphis Minnie's 'Me And My Chauffeur', Willie Dixon's 'Same Thing' and the excellent Sue Foley original, 'Absolution'.

More of the same from Amsterdam but with a few different tracks to admire. Then there's some pretty low key and relaxed interview material that makes up the rest of this work. All-in-all, this live work helps you to get into the blues world of Sue Foley; a world where acceptance of the female artist isn't always plain sailing. Sue Foley's made great progress into that world and is now reaping the rewards of her tenacity and dedication to her chosen and seemingly natural genre.
