Sucking Diesel

Sick Romantic EP

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Sick Romantic' @ 'CD quality'

Hampshire four piece Sucking Diesel's 'Sick Romantic EP' is bound to draw comparisons to the work of Blondie. It's rocking edge is perhaps dirtier, in a nu-punk sort of way, than the aforementioned but singer Cherry Clare certainly has a similar gutsy style about her and behind her she has the tidy and tight support of Craig Farley (guitar & b.vox), Billy B (bass) and Rob Gough (drums).

'Sick Romantic' is definitely a great choice to use as the opening track; it's bright, energetic and catchy and leaves you in no doubt about where Sucking Diesel are coming from. The raunchy energy and catchy melodies continue with 'Red Shoes' and 'Dirty Sleazy You' - in total, three gritty tracks to get yer rocks off to. The EP is 'enhanced' and includes 'Trailer Trash Video'; recorded 'live' this little beauty really gives you a feel of what Sucking Diesel are about. Being a 'live' track, it's not the best sound quality in the world but this 'extra' video track brings the whole thing together nicely and lets you into the quite dark and slightly mysterious world of Sucking Diesel. 'Trailer Trash' is a bit like the icing on the cake - nice work!

If I have to be honest, Sucking Diesel aren't really doing anything new or outrageously different here. 'Sick Romantic' is a great intro to this tasty band - I guess they already have quite a following behind them and I'm sure they'll continue to build on that. This is certainly a good outing but whether 'Sick Romantic' will raise the profile of Sucking Diesel remains to be seen - I'd like to think so though!
