Strange People Productions specialise in music videos (DVD) for bands and artists with a limited budget! But, what you get from Mr.Strange is by no means cheap and cheerful; Gareth seems enerringly able to come up with the goods, with consummate ease. His work, as showcased here, is intelligent, well thought out and superbly shot, edited and finished resulting in piece of promotional work that is almost certain to impress any would-be A&R teams and Promoters.
Here we have the latest Girlfriday epic ('My Desire') which is a storytelling shoot that cleverly depicts the song's own storyline. 'My Desire' is as good as anything I've seen anywhere recently. Volta's 'For Better Not Forever' mixes great clips in the studio with live footage. Gareth has managed to bring the two important aspects of a band's art together and manages to remind me just what a brilliant outfit Volta were and what a sad loss it was when they sadly disbanded. For All One Surface's 'Bleeding Centre Stage' Strange has filmed the band playing their song in a home environment and still manages to get across a storyline with a limited backdrop. Volta's 'Two's And Four's' is brought to life in black and white and again uses a mixture of well shot live footage and a 'staged' storyline. The choice of using monochrome here is further enhanced by Gareth's choice of 'dark' lighting - very effective! A section entitled 'Early Material' is a brave addition because it shows, as the title suggests, Gareth's first few outings with Volta, Guilty and Huron. All of these shoots are absorbing and well worth a looksee. They do give an indication as to just how Mr.Strange's natural abilities have been honed and improved to be where he is today. There's also a 'Bonus Material' section which finds Strange filming a great session of 'Drum Wars' (which is exactly what it says) and a rather 'dark', dramatic piece of work called 'Blue' with A Perfect Circle.
