Play 90 second soundbite of 'Bardot' @ 'CD quality'
'Is It Bardot?' may only have four tracks. But what sweet tracks they are. What an absolute pleasure to behold. What a joy to encounter such a great sounding band in such an unexpected way. 'Is It Bardot?' suffers from just one small thing - it's just not long enough, too few tracks. This should be an album of ten or twelve tracks (at least). Strange Mutant Virus are doing something completely fresh sounding and doing it very well! In the main, things are kept quite simplistic but workmanlike. Strange Mutant Virus know how to limit things to get the best effect.
Unpigeonholeable, that's what Strange Mutant Virus are. Their jangly style takes me back to the fresh country vibe of The Byrds. Strange Mutant Virus comprise Derek Callue (guitars, vocals), Ian Catt (bass, vocals), Tushar Joshi (drums) and Billy Smith (electric violins) and as good as the rest of the band are, it's the latter member that brings the biggest difference to the band with the use of violins. Strange Mutant Virus give off an aura of friendliness and charm with their diverse way. Theirs is an up-lifting way, non-invasive, accessible and very cool.
Strange Mutant Virus are as catchy as their name might suggest; their music is indeed like a virus that gets inside of you but rather than causing ill it brings about a feeling of well-being and positivity. 'Is It Bardot?' is a great little piece of work that deserves to do well. Hopefully, it will lead on to bigger things - for the band as a constructive and innovative unit and for us with more releases, an album maybe. A 'new' sound, a 'new' style, a great sounding band with massive potential. I like this!!!
