Play 90 second soundbite of 'Dilute To Taste' @ 'CD quality'
'People Like A Happy Ending' is as relaxed as calming as you need it to be, as exciting and vibrant as you want it to be and just about as fresh and wholesome as you can get. Stillman can be sensual and goose-bumpy or he can be haunting and nerve tingling but it seems that no matter what the lyric content is there's always something to work up a cool sweat about.
Stillman's vocals are like Aqualung meets Chris Martin and his music is akin to that of Badly Drawn Boy meets Keane. Infectious and extremely listenable, Stillman's vocals come across with silky-smooth ease as he pours out his beautiful lyrics against bright and calming instrumentation that's arranged to allow all that's good about this man to be heard and clearly understood. Everything about this album is precise and very cleverly worked - Stillman's arrangements are deceptively 'big' but nothing ever becomes over-powering or too dramatic. It's wonderfully balanced and sensitively poised to gently ease the listener into Stillman's focussed and creative musical world.
Stillman's gentle vocal style is naturally cool and clear. His songs are designed to chill and thrill. Stillman is a just so pleasurable in everything he turns his hand to and consequently, 'People Like A Happy Ending' is exactly what I expected it to be. There's no real surprises here, just pure musical perfection that's there to be enjoyed and marvelled at. Stillman's 'People Like A Happy Ending' is a beautiful piece of work from start to finish - superb!!
