Stigma

CD - New York Blood

Play 90 second soundbite of 'NY Blood' @ 'CD quality'

Stigma is New York's Vinny Stigma and his band of black-hearted rockers. 'New York Blood' is Stigma's new album - call it hardcore, call it heavy rock, call it punk, it matters not one jot cuz Stigma simply rock hard but with a few surprising twists along the way!

With more punk attitude than most, Stigma blast through this impressive set of powerhouse rockin' songs with adrenalin fuelled conviction. There aint nowt pretty here, there aint nowt actually elegant about Stigma's music; this is flat-out rockin' hardcore that comes from the guts of the man, deep from his rotten core.

Stigma use a tried and tested formula to create dark musical imagery; he takes the grind, attitude and freedom of punk and slips it carefully into a the tighter constraints of pure heavy rock. With rockabilly creeping in and a little-bitty touch of 'dirty' country, Stigma mix it up to keep the listener guessing. However, there's nothing very new about Stigma, there's nowt that really pushes the rock envelope but, what Stigma lack in originality they more than makes up for in energy and commitment - you can very nearly feel to angst that it took to make this album!

'New York Blood' by Stigma is bold, brash and certainly entertaining but by no means ground-breaking. However there's a spirit of (dark) good humour in there - I really think the guys enjoyed putting this together and their unified pleasure and ebullience positively bursts from the speakers. I'm not gonna say that 'New York Blood' is a great album - it's a good album with a great feeling of camaraderie that exudes from it - it's a workmanlike album of gritty songs and displays excellent musicianship and understanding. 'New York Blood' by Stigma is a bit of a 'cultish' work really; one for the strangely strange but oddly normal. 'New York Blood' by Stigma gets the job done but leaves me feeling just a little less than fulfilled.
