Stick Finlays

CD - Progress On Paper

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Cultural Vandal' @ 'CD quality'

Stick Finlays latest release, 'Progress On Paper', just storms from the speakers with high octane material performed with in-yer-face energy. Eight stormin' tracks zip through the ether and leave deep, nasty scars in their wake.

From Jedburgh (Scottish Borders), Stick Finlays are a trio of young and very talented lads quite capable of challenging the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Razorlight and many more. Their powerful blend of indie-rock features nuances of nu-punk, nu-grunge and just outright, ravin' rock.

Between them, Tommy Hunter, Tricky and Chris Manwell lay down a positive barrage of rockin' riffs and solid rhythms that are crisp, cool and original. Sure, there are loads of bands out there doing vaguely similar things but most don't have the massive energetic feel of Stick Finlays. The songs are all stonkin'. The performances are tight and controlled whilst retaining a genuine, almost live, feel. The lads play brilliantly as a unit; working as one they're certainly an outfit to watch out for. And, with ' Progress On Paper' Stick Finlays leave no doubt that they're totally up-for-it!

Occasionally, I just feel that the vocals could be a tad stronger. But, then again they'd probably lose some of that 'live' energy that propels the songs along so superbly - perhaps they've got it just about right after all!

'Progress On Paper' makes a positive statement of intent - Stick Finlays are on a roll and there aint a lot that's gonna stop 'em.
