Play 90 second soundbite of 'Landmarks' @ 'CD quality'
With distinct 70's pop/rock elements, distorted guitars and impressive vocal work, Star Chamber seem to be doing it very much their own way - which, for me, is a good thing!. 'Part One' is full of drive and energy; there's a ballsy attitude to the way that Star Chamber get it all down and although probably not absolutely pop/rock 'pc' at the moment, they certainly sound mature and well rehearsed. I like their non-conformist stance on what they do; they're difficult to pigeonhole and proud of the fact!
'Part One' shows many elements of this impressive sounding outfit. They obviously like vocal harmony - there's plenty of well worked 'voices' throughout the three tracks. They like to rock but do it in a controlled, almost anthemic way. They write clever, varied songs, like to mix it up a bit to keep their listeners on their toes. All-in-all, Star Chamber come through it all with heads held high and with merit. Star Chamber's songs appear to be well thought out, maturely written and well arranged. They have a sense of fun which comes through quite clearly - methinks they really enjoy whet they do and just hope their followers like it as much. And, I have to say, Star Chamber do have something quite loveable about them.
Star Chamber seem to know how to rock but similarly they know how to cool it all down - they pull together to come up with music that's catchy, full of pop sensibility and pretty bloody good. 'Part One' may only be three tracks but in those tracks there's plenty to get yer teeth into and enjoy. Star Chamber can be as raunchy as you like or they can be as subtle as you need them to be - clever work - never too in-yer-face rock but similarly, never too pop trite. Altogether an interesting band and a pretty cool EP. If this is 'Part One' I wonder what subsequent 'parts' will be like - just as impressive I guess!
