Play 90 second soundbite of 'There She Goes' @ 'CD quality'
However, a bit nearer to 'now', Spector are also reminiscent of Stone Roses and I can also hear a little Kula Shaker buzzin' around in there; it's something in their ability to work up a wall of sound but still sound clean, uncluttered and just slightly on the experimental side of things whilst all the time being commercially viable as well as retaining a slightly more cultish acceptability. Not pop, not rock, just great mature music that's actually pretty timeless sounding and appealing to a pretty wide audience. We used to call it 'underground', 'progressive' or 'psychedelic' - now it's part of the whole indie phenomenon I suppose and kinda fits into the overall catchment of that pretty all-encompassing 'label'. But Spector, with their big rock chords, massively hooky bass, precision percussion, great voices and overall slightly 'psycho-something' leanings up the ante somewhat and show that popular music can still be innovative, creative and lots of other positive, descriptive 'tives too!
I really like the sound that Spector are laying down, I like the maturity of it all, I like the whole heady vibe and I love the songs; 'There She Goes' is accompanied here by the equally impressive 'Shine' - very much on a par with the 'A' side and equally viable. This is great music to blast out in the car and it'll certainly come across the air-waves quite beautifully if the radio 'jocks' give it a chance. So, great radio-friendly qualities, anthemic presence, genre blurring - what more can you possibly want?? 'There She Goes' by Spector is quite breathtaking and really deserves to get out there; with its big rockin' sound and plentiful hooks it could just prove to be a great summer 09 pleaser - it's definitely good enough to be a massive hit and its timeless, stadium filling potential is awesome and pretty damn compelling too.
