'Riding' is doggedly infectious; initially the track sounds quite simple and naive but you soon realise that there's more going on than you might have originally thought. The contagion lies deeply in the Peter Hook style bass lines and incessant drums that drive this work on. Added to that there's the keyboards and guitars which sit subtly alongside rather than vying for attention. The mix is unusual but very effective.
'Riding' is a real grower and worker - it gets under your skin. Certainly it's got under mine - I keep listening and trying to break down exactly what it is that calls me back time and again - and I still can't quite work it out! I think the beauty is in its apparent simplicity when actually its quite complex - if that makes sense! This is a clever song, one that's built on underlying simplicity but strengthened by undeniable musical maturity. Very clever, very listenable, really nice work!
