Play 90 second soundbite of 'StayFeelRegret' @ 'CD quality'
'StayFeelRegret' could be considered diminutive coz its an EP with just three tracks that comes in at only just over nine minutes. Could be more, is my initial reaction - value for money and all that! However, 'StayFeelRegret' is a pretty raucous three tracks - they zing along at nine million miles an hour or thereabouts, there's no real respite from the pace or the adrenalin overload - Smudge hit hard and once they hit you stay hitted (eh!) - you know what I mean?
So, this bouncy little release comprises 'Flat-Line', 'StayFeelRegret' and 'Lock+Load' - quite clearly, and a little like myself, Smudge have no time or respect for the Queen's English with titles completely ignoring 'proper' punctuation and all that! And why not? It don't harm none to play around a bit with words and their meanings and uses!! Anyway, 'StayFeelRegret' definitely gets the Smudge message out there - all the songs are dead radio-friendly so air-play shouldn't be a problem and if Smudge can get good exposure they're sure to pick up a massive following coz they're pretty instant and great fun. I'm still a little disappointed with just the three tracks though - four would've been far better but hey, they make the rules and I just 'talk crap' round the results. But seriously, Smudge make a great sound, they're bold and adventurous and they certainly get the job done is fine style; 'StayFeelRegret' is a thumpin' good EP and Smudge defo show great potential.
'StayFeelRegret' by Smudge is high octane punchy pop delivered with massive confidence and impressive unity - five become one - five school friends from Wigan - I bet their music teacher had a tough time keeping these dudes in line. Respec' though coz the five done well and look set to create big waves with their kick-ass pop-rockin' wares - now watch 'em go!!
