Sinking Cities

Single - C Thru / End Of An Era

Play 90 second soundbite of 'C Thru' @ 'CD quality'

'C Thru' / 'End Of An Era' is the debut single, taken from the album 'DROWNOUTtheWORLD', by Glasgow omni-popsters Sinking Cities; two songs that could just about fit into any genre constraints that you might offer up, two totally different songs it has to be said, both drippin' with catchability and commercial viability.

'C Thru' is a punkish up-tempo rocker with hefty chunks of retro 70's/80's electro flourishes decorating the rhythmically driven backdrop of metronomic drums, throbbin' Peter Hook-esque bass and scathin' guitars. This is a real foot-tapper right from first hearing and just gets stronger with subsequent plays. 'B' side, 'End Of An Era' shows the more subtle side of Sinking Cities with a proper poppy ballady kinda thingy. Fairly simplistic sounding but richly emotional, beautifully executed and totally believable, Sinking Cities show they've got passion and emotion as well as balls and grit.

So, in just two short songs Sinking Cities demonstrate great variety and superb musicianship; this five-piece seem to have got themselves nicely sorted and work together beautifully as one very slick and pretty diverse unit. Sinking Cities show great confidence both compositionally and instrumentally and if this breadth of writing is typical they will prove to be a mighty force to be reckoned with. It's difficult to be sure with just two short tracks to work from but, there's definitely something about Sinking Cities that really works and methinks they're gonna be a pretty shit-hot act with much to offer the unsuspecting public - certainly, 'C Thru' and 'End Of An Era' get straight down to business and start to pave the way forward for this excellent sounding outfit - it'll be a long , hard road but I've got a feeling that Sinking Cities are ready for the ride!
