Play 90 second soundbite of 'Tuesday Blue' @ 'CD quality'
Writing the sort of songs that have a timeless quality, songs of everyday life, observational songs, real, honest songs, Le Fort manages to make his music sound bright and optimistic no matter what the lyric content might suggest.
Le Fort writes extremely well and projects his lyrics from the heart; he may not be the best vocalist on the planet but he certainly uses what he's got to great effect as he ekes out every sentiment and every emotion associated with his poetic words - generally, he has a distinctive rather than a stand-out sound and style. Instrumentally Le Fort has a great touch that's often reminiscent of the great Carol King's keyboard work. Overall Le Fort reminds me of Gilbert O'Sullivan singing Paul McCartney; his delivery often has that same semi-spoken quality of the former and his songs are beautifully written and crafted al la the latter. Simon Le Fort somehow also reminds me a little of Billy Joel; his music similarly crosses several genre boundaries and he has a definite appeal - he's obviously a class act with lots to say and a natural gift for composition and performance.
'Tuesday Blue' is totally radio friendly and I can well envisage the likes of Wogan and Co. giving Le Fort several well appreciated outings and helping to get his name out there. The album has a very 'level' feel to it; there aren't really any tracks that manage to break from the well tried and tested permutations that balladic soft rock endlessly employs. There are no real stand-out tracks either; perm any one from fourteen and you're sure to pick a winner of sorts.
