CD - Permanent Way

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Icon' @ 'CD quality'

With 'Permanent Way, Portsmouth based Producer and DJ, Simon Heartfield, has put together an album that is as extraordinary as it is diverse. Mixing house, techno, electro, ambient and more, Heartfield has used his vast experience at the decks to write and produce a work that is imaginative and soothing, complex but accessible - an emotional 'trip' through a soundscape of electronically reconfigured samples and grooves.

Ten tracks for the dance floor shape makers and body contortionists to break sweat to or simply drool over whilst chilling. Instrumentally intriguing passages confront vocal samples sometimes reminiscent of Norman Cook's work and with the grace and control of the great Nitin Sawhney.

Although containing elements of several dance floor genres, for me the work has a greater tendency towards ambient and techno - repetitive vibes rolling over gentle electronic backdrops that nurse and nurture the senses into a pleasant numbness - a sort of mental black hole that continually sucks the mind and senses through a void of other consciences with sounds and mental images rolling between speakers. Contrasting crystal clear samples with scratchy vinyl cuts 'Permanent Way' has it all - certainly it's more for the club-ite's, the dance freaks and the groove-alterers but it's also accessible to anyone appreciating the modern techniques of studio based music-making and sound experimentalists.

Due to its genre, 'Permanent Way' will generally have a limited audience but that audience will be the techno-knowledgeable dance freaks and groove junkies - and hey, there's plenty of them out there.
