Play 90 second soundbite of 'Calling All Killers' @ 'CD quality'
Featuring, as well as the title track, 'We Should Be Dead' and 'Bare', SilverSky deliver with energy and great drive; thumpin' bass reminding me of The Stranglers, decisive and bulky percussion and guitar chords and screaming riffs that compliment the gritty vocals. However, I don't think there's actually too much that's different about SilverSky - no big hooks to hang yer hat on, no trade-mark sound to set them apart from the millions of other indie-rock outfits!!
So, SilverSky have all the required attributes and quite obviously shed-loads of natural talent. Their songwriting is pretty good but not spectacular and they execute their songs with solid unity and adrenalin fuelled verve. Certainly, SilverSky are, as their press pack suggests, the 'complete package', certainly SilverSky are contenders, certainly SilverSky have the ability to cause shock and awe. But, I can't hear anything really special in these three tracks that suggests worldbeaters at work. SilverSky make all the right noises and perform their songs seemingly effortlessly and they definitely know how the rock...and some! However, 'Calling All Killers' by SilverSky is a great little promo release that is sure to bring new rewards for SilverSky and help their cause.
'Calling All Killers' by SilverSky is an honest and just EP that clearly indicates that SilverSky are up there and mean business. If SilverSky could just find that little bit extra to stand them apart from the indie hoards they would benefit greatly from its inclusion - workmanlike, gutsy and extremely listenable, 'Calling All Killers' by SilverSky goes some way to showcasing the strength and depth of SilverSky - I think they could do better though, something tells me that SilverSky could be special if only they could inject that bit of innovation into their sound.
