Play 90 second soundbite of '1000 Miles' @ 'CD quality'
Now, I'm not gonna knock Shaun and his team too much for this work - why should I? Shaun is a talented and very likeable young guy with a striking voice and a very appealing way. Ok, this aint my thing but, I can't write bad things just coz I wouldn't buy the album myself. 'Shaun' will be a strong seller and it'll make Shaun Rogerson even more of a household name than he is already. The album 'Shaun' has been very carefully assembled with thirteen 'classic' songs covering over forty years of quality, popular, song writing. From Carole King's 'You've Got A Friend' right up to Snow Patrol's 'Chasing Cars', Shaun slicks his way effortlessly through some of the greatest songs of modern times. With his unmistakeable voice Shaun, as you'd expect, gives every song his full, if limited, attention and he does everything flawlessly.
Young, teenage popster girls and women of all ages will be only to pleased to welcome 'Shaun' into their CD collections. I'm not being sexist or cynical when I say that - Shaun is definitely one for the girls - pure and simple. The shy but charming young man with the silky, choirboy looks and voice to match will do very well with his debut release. For me though, Shaun and his team (I assume) have taken the safe and easy option of only covering 'standards'; there's no attempt to bring originality to Shaun's repertoire. And, although everything he does here he does very well and it's all very polished, there's no real emotion in his delivery - it's all too safe and too slick - Shaun still lacks real grit and 'balls'. Can Shaun Rogerson really produce the 'big' delivery? I don't know and this album doesn't give any real indication either!
'Shaun' is extremely easy listening - simple as that - it doesn't try to be anything else really. It's safe and assured, pure and honest. Whether you like the whole X-Factor music machine thing or not it won't really matter coz Shaun Rogerson will be a winner anyway. 'Shaun' is going to sell and I'm pretty sure Shaun Rogerson will be around for a while yet doing exactly this kinda thing.
