Shane Board

Single - Tell Me Now

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Tell Me Now' @ 'CD quality'

Shane Board is a new rising star; with his good looks, youthful voice and impressive delivery Shane has all the tools required to become a household name in the pop scenario. However, 'Tell Me Now' may not be the springboard he needs right now; this big production song needs a bigger, more powerful voice and Shane's distinct but less weighty voice doesn't quite fill the song's boots. Shane should be blasting out pop songs for the youth of today not big ballads for their moms and dads - that will come later, once established and honed.

What this single release does say about this young man is that he is pretty fearless and is prepared to push himself to reach his goal. 'Tell Me Know' and its 'b' sides, 'Hello Again' and 'Constantly You' are all fairly hefty feeling balladic pop songs and Shane takes them on with great enthusiasm and a deal of self-belief. However, just at the moment, I can't help but feel that such songs are just too mature, too big for this young pretender! Shane gives his all, of that there is no doubt but, his relatively tender years and inexperience get in the way at this level and hold him back somewhat when it comes to being able to deliver the goods with believability. My feeling is that Shane would be better suited, at this moment in time, to more up-beat pop songs that he would be able to deliver with true boyish conviction and youthful ebullience. Sorry, but 'Tell Me Know' just sounds wrong for Shane right now!

The songs themselves are well written, beautifully arranged, superbly crafted and stunningly produced and they are certainly capable of being big money makers. But, Shane doesn't quite sound ready for such a big challenge and thus the songs don't fill me with belief, at least not the sort of belief that such strong songs need! Shane Board should perhaps re-think his position a little; he has time on his side and he is still more than capable of learning and growing. Having said all of that, if promoted and exposed well, 'Tell Me Now' will probably do quite well and start to get the Shane name out there. There's much more to come from this young man, of that I'm sure; the right songs will certainly help him break through to reach his dream, but for me, 'Tell Me Now' just isn't the right song right now!!
