Play 90 second soundbite of 'Injection' @ 'CD quality'
The infectious stop-start, broken rhythm of 'Injection' and the pulsating drive of 'Strobe Light' are both energetic offerings packed full of catchy passages and awesome arrangements - the former sounding brilliantly commercial, the latter showing that these Birmingham boys mean business with another similarly saleable work. Great so far then!! Track three shows another side to Selotape as the guys take it down a few notches with a really impressive slow grower in 'Semi Precious' - here they show that rock doesn't have to hit you full in the face with aggression and power. 'Semi Precious' has more light and shade than a flickering light bulb - coasting gracefully along before building with another soothingly rocky dose of catchy guitar and keyboard passages - and back again. Clever piece this and a great way to finish this extremely infectious work.
Selotape are trying to be a bit different. They're bending a few of the rules and creating their own little groove. And, why not? From the evidence here, Selotape have worked hard to find that 'groove', hone it and make it work for them. And, it's quite likely to take them to a very interesting and hopefully rewarding place. Very nice too!!
