Play 90 second soundbite of 'Aeroplane Arcade' @ 'CD quality'
Any half decent band needs good foundations on which to build their music and Science Vs Romance certainly have pretty substantial building blocks in the form of really impressive songs. Not content with just writing great songs, Science Vs Romance also know how to make the most of their compositions through damn fine playing and great arrangements. This is one great band and one very impressive work!!
Now, I'm not saying that Science Vs Romance are the finished article yet - the boys are young and I'm sure they know that there's still a lot to be learned yet. But, in just six tracks, as presented here, Science Vs Romance have made a massive impression on me. I can see talent running right through the middle of everything that's been laid down here. These guys write and play with a genuine honesty; at times they show their youthful, ebullient side with some nu-punk attitude and then they go off into some extremely mature, very well crafted stuff that might be showing where they are eventually heading - it's pure and it's honest and it's pretty scary coz Science Vs Romance show massive potential here!!
Evidently this outfit came together through mutual appreciation of black humour and mutual musical influences and that togetherness has provided a great platform on which they build their songs. It all works and works very, very well. This is one helluva good EP!! And, although they cite several influential bands in their press pack, Science Vs Romance have managed, pretty much, to come up with their own signature style and sound. My only criticism about this work is that the guys failed to send me any artwork so I don't have the track listings - nevermind, what I hear is good enough and that's what matters at the end of the day!
Methinks that Science Vs Romance have something quite special about them - I think that they have bonded extremely well together and the end product shows not only dedication but great team playing and fantastic mutual understanding. Science Vs Romance could be one to watch out for - really well done guys - keep it up - this is great stuff!!
