Play 90 second soundbite of 'One Small Step' @ 'CD quality'
Just three tracks here but more than enough to realise that Satellite-State have got something very decent goin' on. Hints of Coldplay, touches of Snow Patrol - the same sort of well crafted songs that tend to get under yer skin; that's what Satellite-State tell me with these pretty impressive tracks. 'One Small Step', 'Clockworks' and 'Carry Your Own Weight' all show bold composition, mature lyrics and great musicianship - three very sweet numbers to whet the appetite for, hopefully, more of the same to come.
Satellite-State show great promise here; if this small set is typical then I think Satellite-State could be in for a decent future - given the right breaks and some luck! I certainly can't criticise the writing or the playing here. However, I do think they've let themselves down a bit with the mix and production; levels are all over the place, the instrumentation sounds cluttered (because of the mix rather than through over-playing) which results in the vocals loosing some impact. Instrumentally and vocally these guys are excellent which makes it even more of a sin not to get it right at the recording stages. Still, that can, and I'm sure will, be sorted. Allowing for all of that I can see a band here that's got massive potential; their style is absolutely 'now' and their songs have plenty of bite about them.
Satellite-State seem to be on the right tracks with this demo. As a gig-getter it'll work pretty well but if it were 'cleaned up' somewhat I'm sure there would be even bigger rewards. As an introduction to a band, this demo is certainly doin' what it should - I like what I've already heard, I hear a interesting and competent outfit that should do extremely well if they stick with it. Really nice demo - I'm suitably impressed and interested in what Satellite-State will offer up in the future - watch this space!!
