Play 90 second soundbite of 'I'll Match Your Hate (With All My Love)' @ 'CD quality'
'I'll Match Your Hate (With All Of My Love)' simply blasts its way through the speakers with its extremely catchy verses and equally catchy choruses. This somehow typifies Rosemary's whole being; strong, memorable songs performed impeccably! It's a great opener after which the listener might be expecting a slight respite which just doesn't come 'cause 'Suburban Kings' then rips into you with adrenalin fuelled passion and more 'hooks'. Yes, once again, Rosemary's fresh feeling 'contemporary-retro' stylee (not a typo!!) just grabs the attention from note one and unerringly holds on to you with its barrage of great, foot-stompin' rhythms.
'In My Sleep' at last slows things down just a smidge; it's yet another great toon that feels extremely commercial, if excitingly different, and unique. Of the three originals on offer here 'In My Sleep' really shows the effortless vocal talent, skilful playing and brave toon-building skills possessed by Tim Hill, Martin Brett and Jonathan Chamberlain that are collectively Rosemary.
Then we come to their 'cover'. Now I'm not a great lover of covers but I have to say that this is an amazingly clever version of 'Kisses Sweeter Of Wine'. Rosemary have taken a seldom heard nowadays fifties work and transformed it and made it sound fresh and somehow 'original' - they've simply made it their own! Cunning stuff lads - I may now have to revise my whole view on revamped covers!
With 'The White EP' Rosemary, as good as I felt they were before, have continued to grow. The whole work is beautifully handled - excitingly fresh sounding and totally absorbing. Their use of jangly chords, catchy melodies and incessant rhythms all liberally plastered with precise, vibrato laden vocals absolutely blows me away. 'The White EP' marks another milestone in (quick) march forward of this relatively unknown, relatively new-on-the-scene but absorbing three piece outfit.
Finally, a note to anyone in the Worcester/Hereford/West Midlands (or the world in general!!) area. Rosemary are playing at my local haunt, Worcester's premiere live music venue, The Marr's Bar, on Thursday 23rd June 2005 (Just £3 for three bands - can't be bad!!).
