Rictus

Demo

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Fallen On Deaf Ears' @ 'CD quality'

This demo was entered into the 2006 Toxic Pete / ffg Studios Demo Competition

Three tracks from the firebrands that are Rictus. Mature power pop, still with a hint of their punkish roots, played with conviction and energy.

'Fallen On Deaf Ears' is a good choice for starters; it's absolutely typical of Rictus 2005/06. It romps smoothly along sort of mid tempo. It's expertly structured and carries a pretty commercial feel. The pace lifts somewhat as 'Me And You' smashes its way through the baffles and cones. More of the punk influence here - very reminiscent of Green Day. Very in yer face but very listenable. 'Love You To Death' is a little beauty; infectious guitars vie with the vocals as Rictus rip through this, yet again, commercial piece. All in all this is a great little demo outing; it tells the listener practically everything he/she needs to know about this likeable band of young terrors.

If there's one thing that this demo shows it's that Rictus have come a long way in the last couple of years. Although they're still hitting us hard with their poweful songs they've 'tangibly' grown up musically - there's plenty of good stuff and great playing here to get to grips with. The biggest improvement comes with their studiomanship - their recordings are now spot on and make Rictus sound as good as they should.

These guys have loads of talent and I hope they manage to stick together and continue to mature and hone their combined skills. The natural talent's always been plain to see and Matt, Oly and Adam seem to have a brilliant understanding between them. They play with a slick precision and are now a tight, well structured unit, a feature that comes across in their recordings.
