Play 90 second soundbite of 'Just Knowing You're Near' @ 'CD quality'
'Anything But' has eleven great tracks that demonstrate the energy and drive of Adam, Matt and Oly and show the potential of unit Rictus. The pace here is almost unforgiving with just the odd 'threat' of dropping a couple of gears into slower mode.
With most tracks I can easily visualise a heaving mosh pit going ballistic to Rictus' kick-ass, ball breaking vibes. This album really gives a great insight into this young bands hectic but enjoyable sounding world. Everything's tight, well thought out and played superbly. The songs are catchy to the point of infection. The running order's also interesting; they kick the whole thing off with a searing metal-fest of 'Sound Transmitted Infection' with its Devin Townsend feel before nestling back into the more conventional Rictus mode and then cleverly bring things to a classy and gentle end with the stunning 'Just Knowing You're Near'.
They're getting older, they're getting stronger. They have belief in themselves and their confidence shows in 'Anything But' - a fine collection of modern and pretty commercial sounding works.
