Play 90 second soundbite of 'When It Suited You' @ 'CD quality'
'Amazing Love' sets out Emberstone's case in no uncertain terms; superbly crafted, slick and genuinely competitive, Emberstone cruises through five varied but similarly proportioned, 'sleazily soulful but richly melodic tracks.
Emberstone has a somewhat 'nasal' intonation but he uses his distinctive, breathy voice amazingly well to shape and decorate his perfectly formed songs. Emberstone gives a slick, ezy, emotional and polished account of himself on 'Amazing Love'; every bit as good as his 'soul-brothers' across the big pond, Emberstone proves that Brits can indeed deliver a groove and rise to the occasion. 'Amazing Love' demonstrates mature and intelligent songwriting and Emberstone has 'orchestrated his songs with great care and attention to detail. The 'man' drops in and out of pure R&B, indulging himself with jazzy vibes and the occasional rap outing. So, at least our man is prepared to mix it up and give the genre some fresh spirit and much needed heart. He's cool, not frightened to push the envelope and doesn't put a foot wrong on this beautifully crafted EP.
Call it soul, call it R&B, it matters not what label it's given. What matters is that Richard Emberstone is trying damn hard to break into the all-too-often USA monopolised genre; 'Amazing Love' demonstrates Emberstone's quality and dedication - with good promo and decent air-time Emberstone looks set to get his name out there as he starts to make a difference. 'Amazing Love' by Richard Emberstone is a warm, rich and pretty sensual piece of work - Emberstone shows that he's not just a performer, he's a wordsmith, a songsmith and a real all-round soul trooper. Could Richard Emberstone be one of the few to break the mould and bring soulful R&B back to our shores? 'Amazing Love' shows that Richard Emberstone has all the credentials for success - it's gonna be a hard old road and even if he breaks through in the UK he'll find it extremely difficult to 'crack' the US of A. Hey, the guy sounds like a winner, someone who won't give up easily so he's got every chance of getting where he wants to be.
