Play 90 second soundbite of 'The Escape Artist' @ 'CD quality'
Bordering on post-rock but cleverly retaining a commercial edge, Revere are walking a difficult musical road but one that'll bring just deserves if things go well. 'The Escape Artist', here presented as a radio edit and also a full version, is a dark and eerie sounding song; atmospheric, bold, anthemic and then some - 'The Escape Artist' is a piece of modern genius!
Pooling anything up to eight into the Revere fray this huge sounding outfit take alternative rock to the ordinary man in the street with poetic ramblings set to a near orchestral score; vibrant guitars unnervingly vie with strings, keys, horns and voice as drums and cymbals, in conjunction with subdued bass, pound and crash a steamy backdrop of build and recede, build and recede. Stunningly crafted and beautifully executed, 'The Escape Artist' could be massive for Revere - if only more people understood and got off on the finer details of post-rock/alternative music.
'The Escape Artist' is a magnificent piece of work, with so much going on it would've been easy to lose the plot and drift off into self indulgent mayhem but no, Revere know about control, dynamics, harmony and discord and they use all of their amazing skills to ensure that 'The Escape Artist' stays within acceptable bounds and appeals to the masses rather than the few.
I found 'The Escape Artist' by Revere totally absorbing and very, very, exciting; a pleasant change from the indie norm, a work of courage, thought and adventure that takes risks but remains viable in today's fickle marketplace. 'The Escape Artist' sends shivers down my spine and has whet my appetite for the work of Revere and I just hope there's an album somewhere on the horizon - awesome!! Could this be just an overture to a bigger work - sounds like it could! 'The Escape Artist' by Revere is an epic sounding song that will need help to get out to the masses but, given good promo, it could just make the impact it deserves. Breathtaking!!
