Play 90 second soundbite of 'She Make Me She Do' @ 'CD quality'
Ray Brower will never be described as rock'n'roll pussycats; these guys don't purr, they growl! There're four monstrous tracks here, each as distorted and frenzied as the other, each with it's own personality yet each equally diverse and mind-crushingly chilling!! Ray Brower don't exactly pretty things up; their thumpin' beats and crazy rhythms defy categorisation although if you max out the volume you'll definitely know that Ray Brower rock!! It aint true indie, it aint pop, it aint simply rock, it's more new-wave rock, rock with real attitude, rock with big teeth and raking claws! If you like your rock music all prettied-up, all pristine and clean-lined then probably Ray Brower aint gonna be your thang man!! These guys stick two fingers up at compositional normality and spit in the face of audio cleanliness and separation - the Ray Brower sound aint just dirty, it's downright filthy!
Ok, so I think you've probably got the picture about the overall Ray Brower sound - what about the songs, what about the musicianship, what about commerciality??!! Well, Ray Brower's songs seem to sit out on a bit of a limb really!! Certainly they kick up a massive storm with beats that're pretty compelling and nauseatingly catchy. And, the guys can obviously play their instruments and sing, it's just that they go about things a little differently, preferring raw energy to audio stability! As to commerciality, I'm not absolutely convinced that Ray Brower will appeal to the majority; these guys are just too obtuse and kilter-manipulating to be 'mainstream' but, I can see Ray Brower achieving 'cult' status.
'Aye Aye Clich' by Ray Brower is 'rough-rock'; not finely carved and polished marble but rough-hewn, craggy, hard-edged granite!! Not for everyone - but it'll certainly have it's takers!
