'End Of Endless False Starts' by 'indiefolksinger' Raina Rose is one of the most beautiful things I've heard for absolute donkeys trousers (and that's a very long time in my weird world!)!! I'm fortunate that I get sent loads of top quality albums but, every once in a while, something comes along that surpasses all expectations, something very special indeed - 'End Of Endless False Starts' by Raina Rose is that 'once in a while' work!!
If someone asked me what I considered to be a 'natural' voice and vocal style I'd have to point at Raina Rose and suggest they pick up a copy of this magnificent album. Raina's voice is full of grace and beauty; she has a very slight natural vibrato which adds even more warmth to her already luscious and welcoming tones. Her vocal delivery is also natural, un-hurried, un-fussy and simply wondrous!! This lady is seriously good!!
So, great voice, great delivery, what about the album? Ok, 'End Of Endless False Starts' is pushing me towards superlative overload, I'm finding it very hard to express my genuine admiration for this work. Raina may sell herself as 'indiefolksinger' which is all fine and dandy and a very accurate description but, 'End Of Endless False Starts' is nu-folk at its very best and most creative; Raina mixes vibrant country nuances with distinctly folkish tendencies, the odd hint of chilled nu-jazz and she also carefully throws in pretty hefty chunks of commercial viability. I'm not saying that Raina Rose could take the 'charts' by storm but I do believe she's capable of competing with the likes of Joni Mitchell, Natalie Merchant and a few more of the established 'stars' of the form. 'End Of Endless False Starts' comprises ten (eleven if you include the hidden gem!) brilliant songs, all are executed divinely by Raina and her crew of sensitively empathetic musician 'friends' and it would be pointless, totally futile, to pick out individual songs for mention; suffice to say the standard throughout is just amazing!! This lady is seriously good (again!)!!
'End Of Endless False Starts' is absolutely magnificent - yes, I know, I'm in danger of superlative overload again. I'm now bordering on a shift towards expletive enhanced outpourings but as I opened up with the 'f' word I guess I should chill a bit and re-think what I need to say! Ok, 'End Of Endless False Starts' is, without doubt, one of the finest 'folk' biased albums I've ever, yes ever, come across; Raina Rose has that certain 'extra' something, a certain maturity, quality, class - she's compiled an album that's as good as anything currently out there and better than most that've gone before. I repeat myself yet again, this lady is seriously good!!
'End Of Endless False Starts' by Raina Rose is a breathtaking work of modernistic folk music; definitely one for the more discerning ear and definitely one to look out for - no excuses this time - it's purely and simply fanfuckintastic!!
