Play 90 second soundbite of 'As The Pinson Turns' @ 'CD quality'
With hardly a pause for breath and certainly no time to ascertain your bearings, Plate Six smash their way through this impressively raucous album with adrenalin fuelled passion and statically charged aggression. The mix generally favours no single element of Plate Six's work; drums, bass, guitars and vocals seem to be equally important to these guys as they vie for the listeners attention with no thought to the damage done. But, although the mix is unusual, there's still a clarity that shines out through the murk of heady instrumentation. The manic onslaught is relentless and unforgiving; Plate Six seem determined to grab your attention and destroy any preconceived ideas you might have had about whether the current music scene is as vibrant and as passionate as it once was.
'Battle Hymns For A New Republic' is a great piece of work; it might not be for the musical purist but Plate Six show that grunge laden, rockin' indie is not dead - far from it! Plate Six impress the hell out of me with their total attack on the senses.
'Battle Hymns For A New Republic' would be great in the car - there's no way you'd fall asleep at the wheel with this baby! Oh, and don't try to rock the baby to sleep with 'Battle Hymns For A New Republic' - it just won't work! Excellent and excessive!
