Pirate Robot Midget, hey it sounds like one of those draw games like paper scissors stone doesn't it? Ok, maybe not then!! Pirate Robot Midget are an Italian/French outfit from Amsterdam! Does that then qualify as 'world music'? No, methinks not!! Pirate Robot Midget do the whole electro funk rock thing - call it alt as well just for good measure coz the term sits well with their musical style.

'It's My Beat Now' comes here in three different mixes; 'feat Grand Agent', 'Riva Starr Rmx' and 'Dyno Rmx' plus, you get 'Sacrum' and 'So Undead' for good measure. If this kinda music is your bag then this is gonna right up yer street! Pirate Robot Midget mix in a whole load of 'industrial' sounds and beats, squeaks, dings, howls, thumps, clangs, hisses and hoots provide a hard-core fabricated backdrop onto which the vocals and melodies are welded. Much of what's included here borders on drum and bass - so incessant is the rhythmic drive. There's also a somewhat retro KraftWerk kinda thing goin' on in and around PRM's extremely malleable electro funk 'overtures' - it's cool but perhaps a little specialist. However, I have to say, Pirate Robot Midget do tend to get under your skin and motivate spontaneous body movement that tend to keep time with the music - shit I'm dancing!! 'It's My Beat Now' and its companions are all certainly very 'now' and extremely commercial within genre limitations.

Pirate Robot Midget are at times quite manically driven; they drift into the realms of schizoid electro but always manage to maintain that all-important driving back-beat. There's nothing subtle about the 'songs' here; Pirate Robot Midget seem to be going flat-out to beat the listener into submission with their 'clockwork' regulated core-beats and sensory 'noises'. Pirate Robot Midget make great dance oriented music; their repetitive beats and melodic industrial outpourings should prove to be amazingly enlivening in and around the more adventurous dancefloor scene.

'Its My Beat Now' and its bedfellows by Pirate Robot Midget is adventurous electro music for the digital age - max out the vol for heightened sensory gain - leave it on 'repeat' for progressive mind-altering effect! Clever stuff this - just a little removed for most of the electro works currently out there.
