Play 90 second soundbite of 'On Being Alive' @ 'CD quality'
Kane's voice is so varied that it's often hard to believe it's actually the same person singing. Throughout I find myself wondering just what Kane's going to come up with next. Believe me, this album is different, very different. Fresh, original, easy listening with a very hard but superbly honed edge. Songs to listen and relate to. Music to flatten any pace-maker battery known to man. Such is the variation and diversity here that I find myself continually being taken down roads that at first seem familiar but just as I find a familiar landmark the landscape shifts and changes to one I no longer recognise. I find myself on a completely new journey to a destination unknown led by a helmsman that clearly knows where he's going.
Now, soul aint actually my thing. However, the soulful qualities of Philip Kane are very much my thing. I like to be musically tested. I prefer to be challenged, made to think, and 'Time:Gentlemen' does all of the above. On first hearing I was impressed and moved. Subsequent hearings have only strengthened my belief that Philip Kane is someone special - has something special - does special things and has found a unique formula in combining his brilliant song writing with his awesome voice and come up with a real humdinger of an album. A sort of musical alchemy that could easily make him as monetarily rich as his obvious wealth of musical and creative talents indicate.
