Play 90 second soundbite of 'Basket Case' @ 'CD quality'
But, I think I answered myself almost straight away - why? Coz, it's a bloody blindin' song and Pete du Pon has not only done a great version here but he's taken it, changed it and made it his own, he's stamped his mark all over it such that it's still a great song but even after being turned on its head!!
So, you've probably guessed by now that 'Basket Case' is the famous punkish-rock Green Day song. Yes, that's the one - that one that you couldn't help singing every day once you'd heard it. Yes, that one!! And, Pete du Pon has given it a sort of 'old-school' acoustic folk makeover and made it work for him. Pete du Pon's extremely precise and crystal clear delivery give the listener full access to the lyrics and, I think, his version gives the whole song a new lease of life and makes it vibrant in a totally juxtaposed way to the original!
Anyway, I'm still a little bit pissed coz I still don't really know too much about Pete du Pon the artist. Certainly, with a voice this good I'd expect quality from the man and defo, I'd want self-penned songs! However, du Pon's 'Basket Case' has already received massive plaudits since it first appeared on the internet some time ago. So I guess it's already proved itself and releasing it as a stand-alone single is a good move and it'll surely do extremely well. But, I'd still like to hear this guy in his own write!
Pete du Pon gives 'Basket Case' a classic and very polished re-working; his version is superb, of that there's absolutely no doubt at all. Maybe, just maybe, 'Basket Case' will help get Pete du Pon into the limelight and we'll all get a chance to hear what else he's got to offer - methinks the guy's gonna be good!! So, 'Basket Case' by Pete du Pon is nothing short of brilliant; a great version handled with all due care and attention - definitely a superb version from a guy who sounds like he's got a lot more to offer yer - in his own write!! Nice work, excellent version, faultless!!
