Play 90 second soundbite of 'No Choice' @ 'CD quality'
But, this isn't so much retro as nu-punk; it's anarchic with a weather beaten maturity that the 70's youth punksters didn't always have at their disposal. This album rips along with such unabated energy that it hurts. I could make comparisons all day long with this album but, that would be wrong; The Parkinsons rock big style and they rock from their socks to their tops - and they are just, well, The Parkinsons.
Unlike most contemporary nu-punk outfits The Parkinsons do have a genuine feel of retro originality (if that makes sense!). Most current punksters sound just like that - current punksters. The Parkinsons actually sound like the original article. And, there's twenty-three tracks here to bop along to. Twenty-three mainly fast, furious, foot-tappin' tracks - very little respite, just the odd cooling off period during tracks like the excellent 'Needs Of Flesh', and even that's short lived! Weirdly, (coz my promo notes don't tell me much!) several tracks get repeated one or even two times as, presumably, live versions. Nonetheless, the same still applies - loads of rocket-fuelled, hard rockin' outpourings to get down to!
'Down With The Old World' is a superbly vibrant release. It's hard not to like, it's easy to get into and just rocks!!
