Parker

Demo

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Pretty Tits' @ 'CD quality'

This demo was entered into the 2008 Toxic Pete / ffg Studios Studio Time Competition

Sitting very comfortably within the approximate guidelines of rock and blues, four-piece Parker have put together an excellent demo here. Cleverly straddling genre means that Parker should have a wider audience base; contemporary blues fans and the more rock oriented will surely find something to latch on to with Parker's vibrant and expansive musical wares. Mature writing and expressive playing put Parker in a very good place and the fact that Parker aren't simply another indie outfit is also very much in their favour.

Although massively competent, Parker keep it all quite simple and well grounded; they don't over-complicate things, they don't try to be something they're not - it works very well and gives Parker a very clean edge and likeable quality. The songwriting is impressive and contains plenty of variation and Parker play with conviction and unity - in fact, Parker sound very together and totally focussed and appear to have a great attitude towards their artform.

This demo takes the listener through several slightly 'blue' moods but I particularly like how the band handles the slower pieces; they play with real sensitivity and feeling and it's here they really show their abilities and seem to have real identity. However, Parker also handle the more up-tempo stuff pretty well too but here they can tend to sound a bit on the predictable side but, at the end of the day, I don't really have a problem with any of their work.

This five track demo is nicely rounded and very well put together and gives a bloody good account of Parker and their music. As a promotional tool, this demo will work extremely well and it should open plenty of new doors for Parker; it shows the breadth of Parker's repertoire and demonstrates that Parker are totally up for it! Parker rock and that's for sure but, there's a lot more to this band than just 'rock' for rock's sake - Parker have a something at their heart that's seemingly a churnin' urn of burnin' blues that's all wrapped up in a protective layer of soulful rock.
