Papa La Bas are Siobhan and Dwyz; they sound totally in phase with each other in every musical aspect and the resultant sound is beautifully understated and relaxing whilst still feeling bright and persuasive. Certainly, Papa La Bas tend to get under yer skin in the nicest possible way - they play with a cushioned softness, a well padded and comforting sound that feels warm and safe as it envelopes you and attacks your senses. Papa La Bas are definitely doing something to me as I listen and as I'm just an ordinary guy I guess you should be able to feel similarly cosseted by this excellent duo.
Subtle jazzy undercurrents, somewhat industrial sounding beats and schizoid warblings, squeaks and tweets underpin the Papa La Bas sound here. Papa La Bas toy with atmospherics and by cleverly juxtaposing dynamics i.e. metronomic percussive beats set against various rattles and hums, they generate an expressive but somehow simplistic 'noise' which is difficult to describe but suffice to say it works! I'm not sure how commercial Papa La Bas are though, I see them more as an album 'act' as I can well see eight or ten tracks of equally dreamy wares sitting extremely well together and being a really tasty work. That's just supposition on my part though though but what Papa La Bas are giving out here does tend towards dreamy hypnotics and mind-altering atmospherics.
'I'll Come Round' / 'Middle Lane' by Papa La Bas is a beautiful ten minutes of relaxed, modernistic, electo-folk. Superbly conceived, beautifully performed and sensitively produced, 'I'll Come Round' / 'Middle Lane' by Papa La Bas isn't yer everyday electro-pop, it's much more than that, much much more. I could listen to this for hours without getting bored - beautiful stuff - great work!!
