Oxes

@ The Marr's Bar, Worcester - 11/10/04

Described in the listings as being '...ball breaking, angular, danceable mathrock' whatever that all means, Oxes went headlong into their electrifying set of in yer face 'something' rock. Just two guitars and a drum kit was all they needed as they blasted great holes through space on Marr's tonight.

Without doubt they're different. Without doubt they're talented. They're also pretty bloody loud, energetic, full-on and pretty unstoppable. The mosh pit was full of the faithful who sent adoration pouring back onto the stage to stir Oxes into a mind numbing frenzy. The two guitars vied for prime position both visually and audibly. While all that was going on there was some impressive drum stuff pulling the whole thing nicely together. As far as 'mathrock' goes, well I'm not all that sure I know what that is. But 'angular' does conjure up images that seem true to kind. 'Angular' does work as a description of Oxes' style. 'Danceable', well to a point - if there's room and you want to risk loosing an eye to one of Oxes' machine heads as they join in the fun on the floor!!

Oxes can certainly hold their audience's attention. They can whip them into a hypnotic frenzy and then just as quickly pull them back from the brink. I know, I watched them do it throughout every last minute of their set.

Maybe not for me, Oxes, but definitely a crowd puller and storm bringer!! I'm sure their tour will create great interest and they'll gain even more adoring fans.
