A soon as they struck up for the first number the dancing began and didn't let up until the band finished their two part set. Eight besuited guys tore the place apart with their tight set which covered most of the soul and R&B classics that you could mention; from Otis Redding to Geno Washington, Tina Turner to Spencer Davis. Their almost non-stop high energy performance brought about an electric atmosphere and even the most sceptical blues loving regulars were seen either singing along or even dancing.
Musically they were about as tight as it gets with a great rhythm section driving the three piece horn section along, all topped off with effortless vocals and loads of band/audience interaction. A good mixture of up-tempo belters and slow ballads kept the dancing hoards on their toes and gave them plenty of opportunity to exercise their vocal chords along with their leg muscles.
Visually they were great (even though the stage lighting seemed a little low) with the horn section occasionaly describing big brass circles in the air as seems to be customary with soul units. As far as presentation was concerned, they couldn't be faulted; a mixture of red suits with black Tee shirts for the rhythm section, green suits with black Tee shirts for the horns and red jacket, black trousers and black shirt for the vocalist.
Top night all round - I don't think anybody would argue with that!!
