Nagual Sound Experiment (NSE)

CD - Invisible Moments

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Frontier' @ 'CD quality'

Nagual Sound Experiment, I'm sure you get the gist from the name, is an exercise in digitally engineered musical experimentation. But, NSE doesn't take the easy route, it doesn't just go down the techno/dance road. NSE takes the listener on a mammoth eighty minutes of genre bending electronic, 'acid' experimentation of somewhat mind-altering but evocative and heady soundscapes.

'Invisible Moments' is almost world-electro because not only does it blur genre boundaries but it also crosses continents and introduces global influences as it sucks in and oozes out ethnic rhythms and 'tribal' sounds. Think Nitin Sawhney but with more synths and programming and less vocal input and, I suppose, you'd be getting somewhere close but still a million miles away.

This is certainly a value for money release if electronic experimentation is in your musical remit; NSE couldn't possibly cram in more if they tried! But, you have to be prepared to let go of musical inhibitions and rules of composition to really get into this album. If you can just remove yourself far enough from musical normality and simply go with what you hear then 'Invisible Moments' will carry you to a whole new place. 'Invisible Moments' isn't background music - this is music to think about and get carried away in. It's not gonna suit everyone that's for sure! But, if you can allow yourself unlimited access and just try to get into it, there's some really cool stuff tucked away inside. Certainly, the attention to detail, from conception through to final production, is outstanding and it's pretty amazing how so many different sounds, grooves and vibes can be so seamlessly joined together without sounding aurally offensive.

As a work of mind-bending electronic experimentation, 'Invisible Moments' by Nagual Sound Experiment is an impressive and intriguing outing. It's definitely a challenging but somehow absorbing piece of work. With constantly changing dynamics and mood, 'Invisible Moments' is a work for the normality-challenging muso - you aint gonna do a lot of dancing to this and it probably won't soothe the stress-heads in the house. But, if you're up for a challenge and fancy a bit of modern-day Karlheinz Stockhausen-type electro/pscho groove bending and head churning then get yer lugs 'round 'Invisible Moments' by Nagual Sound Experiment. Oh, it's good but I'm not too sure what sort of market-place there really is for this stuff - there is a market-place I know, but is it big enough to really make a difference?
