Play 90 second soundbite of 'New Human Anthem' @ 'CD quality'
Unusually, and almost going against metal edicts, New Project somehow manage to inject punkishly addictive choruses that drill themselves deep into yer head and get you joining in the melee. With typically brazen but amazingly understandable vocals riding through an electro-metal and earwax penetrating percussive onslaught, New Project lean towards the Devin Townsend rockin' way. 'Ultraviolent Light' is a hectic and mind-numbing work that's actually much easier to get into than many similarly genred albums; this is a seriously enjoyable piece of work!
With their pretty unique and riskily adventurous take on metal music, by softening some of the edges and allowing the harshness to become slightly more harmonious, New Project get close to bringing industrial metal to the, previously distanced, masses; true metal-heads will probably say that New Project soften the blow too much here, get a bit namby-pamby, come too close to commercialism for comfort and are selling out etc....blah, blah!! So what, New Project are at least brave enough to take a slightly deviating line and by doing it they've possibly cast a slightly larger net that could increase their 'catch' quite significantly.
Packed with energetic fury and rammed with big crunchin', distorted riffs, sledge-hammer-esque bass lines, ball-breakin' rhythms and a heady cocktail of electro assisted beats and backdrops, 'Ultraviolent Light' by New Project does the biz big style; it holds the attention superbly to the point where you just don't want the trip to end. 'Ultraviolent Light' by New Project is, within its genre, a breath of fresh air - industrial metal rock with a twist - great stuff this!!
