Play 90 second soundbite of 'If You Work Hard...' @ 'CD quality'
The Mynas way comprises slightly gravely but somehow silky smooth, nicely projected vocals sitting very well proportioned over some pretty spiky and incessant guitars that just won't go away and sound great. Beautifully positioned bass and drums are left to encourage and support the front-line with solidity and again, well proportioned, drive. The songs (three of them here) are maturely crafted and have an up-lifting feel to them regardless of content. I suppose this could be classed as inteli-indie; it's educated, it's well seasoned and it's one step removed from the indie norm. All-in-all there's nothing really to fault but simply loads to admire.
Mynas confess to not being a hard-gigging outfit, preferring instead to concentrate on their studio-craft. For me, that's a shame coz I could see Mynas creating quite a storm in the right live forum. Certainly, Mynas sound extremely accomplished and worldly-wise so I don't see a problem there. Plus, surely gigging helps promote the band and their music and, in turn, that promotion should lead to bigger sales of their beloved studio work. But, at the end of the day, it's up to Mynas how they conduct themselves and promote their excellent work.
'If You Work Hard...' and its two little 'helpers', 'Anthony's Brother' and 'Morgan' clearly show the quality and professionalism of Mynas. All three songs here are excellent; the song-writing is right up there and Mynas sure know how to play. Mynas seem to have it all sorted and I can see no reason why they wouldn't want to exhibit their catchy, contagious songs out there in the live scenario. I thought that the music industry was crying out for quality artists such as Mynas. Come on guys, get yer arses into gear and get some gigs sorted, show the unknowing and unsuspecting world what you've got to offer!!
In just three short tracks Mynas have impressed me; great songs, great performances, really tidy all round!! Get your music out there guys, not just as downloads either, get some air-time, get some gigs, get this stuff out there - it's certainly good enough - there's loads of stuff out there that doesn't compare with Mynas, and there's nothing like a bit of competition to push people along. I see Mynas being in a position to be the 'pushers' and making many out there think twice about what they're doing. Lovely songs, excellent execution, great band - keep on (lightly!!) rockin' guys, keep it alive and above all, keep music live please!!
