Play 90 second soundbite of 'You Don't Know Me (Howie B Remix)' @ 'CD quality'
Here we have thought provoking soundscapes that unfold through a positive plethora of gently pulsing rhythmic undercurrents and sensitive voices with just the occasional hint (but no more than a hint!) of eastern and Afro influences hidden beneath what is generally seen as a western musical genre.
Deceptively dark but hypnotically refreshing 'You Don't Know Me (Howie B Remix)' tends to creep slowly up on you and then sits in your conscience without you realising it. Following on is 'You Don't Know Me (Album Version)' which is less subtle and all together more multi-dimensional. The 'groaning' vocal works superbly with the sparse 'orchestral' interjections, both being carried by pulsating rhythms and strange musical timings - a great piece of work! 'Happy Birthday' continues with the dark, 'groaning' theme and more of those contagious yet odd timings and interjections.
Each of the three ambient laced tracks is supremely crafted to allow access to each and every component part that eventually come together to make up the whole. Very clever, very listenable and pretty damn relaxing! Mukul makes music that would sit well as soundtrack material to an arty or perhaps biographical film; aptly chilled and never brash enough to detract from the visual senses. Mukul seems to be bringing new dimensions to what can often be a tired sounding genre.
