Play 90 second soundbite of 'Falseness & Fairytales' @ 'CD quality'
Modern Clichés do pop-rock with subtlety and by gentle persuasion. Just as commercially viable as any of the other obviously harder-hitting outfits out there, Modern Clichés take it relatively easy but get the results just the same - a rare pleasure to behold and a really nice change!
Musically, Modern Clichés give a flawless and vibrant performance here; beautifully understated, light jazzy undercurrents meets soft rockin' finesse. Modern Clichés make a sound that I would almost describe as 'mod' music - you know, tuneful, elegant and tasty rather than boisterous, kick-ass and totally rockin'. Sure there's an energy and sure there's an attitude but it's all quite low-key and friendly, not exactly retro but getting close.
Modern Clichés are three guys, Phil, Ollie and Andy, playing great pop music and just making it all sound so easy and such fun!! Modern Clichés bring a bit of lightness to pop-rock, they get the job done without having to knock down walls with power and without going into over-kill mode. And then, and this is where Modern Clichés really are different, there's the vocals; Phil has a very gentle, almost sweet voice and a very unforced, relaxed delivery - it's all so unusual and so refreshing - modern pop-rocksters take note, subtle can work and subtle can still be powerful!!
'Falseness & Fairytales' by Modern Clichés is a really contagious EP; three tracks, 'You Don't Know What You Want To Be', 'Falseness & Fairytales' and 'Exactly The Same As Always' are all crackin' little soft rockers, melodic popsters. Maturely crafted and sensitively played, they each have a distinct identity but work extremely well together. Perm any one from three and you'd have a bloody good single on yer hands! Really cool stuff this from a great sounding outfit.
