Milophobia

EP - Milophobia

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Blackwings Unfold' @ 'CD quality'

Wow, what a mighty fine noise this is!! Edinburgh's Milophobia are taking a road somewhat removed from the indie norm; this is alternative alright!

Milophobia make dark, unsettling music - not brooding so much as distressed and angry, tortured, tormented. Their down-tuned onslaught is built on the foundations cast by heaving drums with loads of 'toms' pounding against crashing cymbals and metronomic snare. The bass work here is totally kerrangin', it's pointed, it's up-front, it's awesome, The seismic guitars thrash through the bass lines creating great electric spikes of distorted sound. The instrumental combination is pretty impressive and very 'modern'. Somehow the vocals manage to cry and scream their way through the electric storm; well defined, beautifully proportioned, accessible and superbly handled, the voice makes like yet another instrument - overall it's a big, bold and pretty enthralling sound that Milophobia make!

This self-titled EP contains four 'big' songs in 'Soul In A Souless City', 'The Turning', 'Blackwings Unfold' and 'Bedside'; blissfully more powerful and expressive than indie but thankfully less manic and invasive than metal, Milophobia remind me somewhat of a heavy and angst filled Queens Of The Stone Age (or something along those lines anyway!!). The Milophobia sound certainly grabs yer attention; it's almost a case of restrained 'stoner' with buckets full of punk aggression all topped off with mind-chillin' riffs and nerve-janglin' fills - the sound's big, dirty, angry and quite inspired. Milophobia push hard at the modern pop-rock envelope and make a wholesome but festering sound that's different enough to be attention grabbing but sufficiently familiar to be readily accessible and acceptable. This debut work definitely shows great potential for this exciting sounding outfit - four big, bountiful tracks - a very tasty EP and a promising and seriously viable band. And, picking up on a few lyrics, I'd just like to add 'We know what you're doing here - don't we!!' - tasty, very well executed and pretty blindin' stuff!!
