Play 90 second soundbite of Midnight Gift @ 'CD quality'
Well, Midnight Gift play, what I suppose is, straight down the line, good old British rock music. And, they play it damn well. Loads of scorching guitar riffs and screaming sustains feature against the backdrop of solidly supportive bass and drums. Vocally (Alexander?), the delivery is typically British too. The distinctive voice cries and sympathetically belts out in fine fashion. Personnel-wise I guess that's it - a three piece or maybe four - not sure. But, the feel is pretty cool and these guys sound very competent if a little staid. Midnight Gift don't do anything here that sets them apart from others in their ilk. There's a pretty hefty chunk of Jimmy Page stylee guitar work so I'm guessing Led Zep are very influential here.
Although a tad staid, Midnight Gift do a good job on this demo - and there's plenty of work out there for a band such as this. To really make a mark Midnight Gift, I believe, should invest some time into finding their own, distinct sound. Oh, they'll work all right but, with just a little more 'self' in there these guys could start to impact onto the bigger scene.
This is a pleasantly listenable demo that's been well put together and does exactly what is should do - it demonstrates Midnight Gift's abilities and hints at the potential for better things. A good piece of work guys but could be better - think about it!
