Middlehill

Demo

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Say What You Want' @ 'CD quality'

New wave indie rocksters Middlehill have put together a three track demo of their energetic work here and show that they've got talent and potential. Pace combined with variation, light and shade all share common ground but the overall feeling you're left with is one of, 'what just bloody well hit me?'; it's a real mish-mash of change and change again that some will love and others will find difficult to take.

Middlehill certainly know how to mix it up; nothing's ever constant, nowt's ever quite the same! Middlehill could even be said to be a little schizo in the way they seem to like to chop and change - it's all very clever and, I have to say, very enjoyable (if you like a challenge!). Middlehill are three young lads from near Brighton and their energetic enthusiasm is evident here - there's a real feeling of focus and experimentation around a theme. Instrumentally they're impressive and I like the rather lazy sounding vocal delivery - it suits their style very well. As a demo this works extremely well but I think the recording still needs some work; there's a sort of flatness to every song as if they're playing through a wall of cotton-wool. I'd like to hear a lot more ooomph in the mix - then Middlehill would really rock coz at the moment the power they inject isn't really coming out as it could or should. Anyway, that's just my theory - Middlehill may like it exactly as it is!

Middlehill comprise Waz (lead vocals, lead guitar), Pete (bass, backing vocals) and Joel (drums, backing vocals) - the three tracks here are, 'You Talk Too Fast', 'Crazy Fool' and 'Say What You Want'; three really decent tracks that're as varied as they are individual (if that makes sense!!). Middlehill are trying hard to be a bit different by offering rock, funk and indie all-together, at the same time - it works quite well and bodes well for the future. Middlehill show great promise as writers and performers - a bit more tweakin' in the studio and they'll have a finished product. Good work but just needs some polish to really make it all shine properly and stand out loud and proud.
