Play 90 second soundbite of 'Everybody's Worried About You' @ 'CD quality'
Track one, 'Empire' comes scorching off the laser with a sort of retro feel about it. Fast and punchy with a repetitive rhythm that sticks in the mind - a good opener!
'Haight & Ashbury' keeps the pace up with a similar retro feel. Nice trumpet against the guitars lifts the piece and provides the hook. 'Everybody's Worried About You' is a slow and moody number. The softer vocal style has great feeling against some really tasty guitar passages that are never too 'in yer face'. An impressive piece this - a cool number. 'You Can See It' stays in the cool mode. Some fine bass lines here working supremely with the soft drums. Again the guitar riffs are nicely crafted - never overdone, just punctuating the vocals. The track slows further with a brilliant instrumental passage to fade - beautifully done! The final track, 'Resurgem' is a live recording (Brixton Academy) and gives a good impression of their live performance. Tight, exciting and interesting - a great sounding number that demonstrates that Methodaire packs a mean punch on stage.
Overall, I'm very impressed with this work. I'm not too keen on the image of the band though; all in their red V necked jumpers - but it does somehow suit their slightly retro feel. But, I have to say, that's my only criticism!
As an old git, I found Methodaire reminded me of early Doors and Country Joe And The Fish. But, they don't really need or deserve comparisons; Methodaire are fully capable of doing what they do and they do it extremely well.
Another great CD which will now be played several more times!
